a state of S Peninsular Malaysia: mostly mountainous, with large areas under paddy and rubber. Capital: Seremban. Pop.: 859 924 (2000). Area: 6643 sq. km (2565 sq. miles)

Negri Sembilan

a state in Malaysia, in the southwestern part of the Malay Peninsula. Area, 6,600 sq km; population, 479,300 (1970). The administrative center is Seremban. The basis of agriculture is the growing of rubber plants (which occupy almost all the cultivated area on the coastal lowland) and coconut and olive trees; there are small areas of rice. Tin ore is mined. There is primary processing of agricultural produce. The seaport of Port Dickson is in Negri Sembilan.
