Neiman, Leonid Robertovich 

Born Mar. 24 (Apr. 6), 1902, in St. Petersburg. Soviet scientist in electrical engineering. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970; corresponding member, 1953).

Neiman graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1930 and became a teacher there (he became a professor in 1940). From 1931 to 1935 he headed the strong-current group at the Leningrad Electrophysical Institute. From 1946 to 1960 he worked at the Power Engineering Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His main work is on the study of the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a nonlinear medium, the theory of simulation of electromagnetic processes in systems with high-power transformers, the study of complex electric power systems containing transformers, and the transmission of power by direct and alternating current. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin and two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor.
