Neiman, Leroy (nē`mən), 1927–, American painter and printmaker. Neiman is a leading artist of sporting subjects in the 20th cent. He combines startling juxtapositions of saturated colors with a loosely impressionistic painting style to achieve a feeling of dynamism. Neiman, LeRoy (1927– ) illustrator; born in St. Paul, Minn. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago (1946–50) and the University of Illinois (1951). Based in New York City, he is recognized as the consummate sports artist of the 20th century. In 1972 he was named the official artist for the Olympic games. He was designated the outstanding sports artist in America by the Amateur Athletic Union (1976) and was given the Olympic Artist of the Century Award in 1979. How to thank TFD for its existence?
