Neisseria meningitidis isolates were further characterized. Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis are the nation's most prevalent bacterial sexually transmitted infections, and females aged 15-19 are at higher risk than those of other ages. To get some insight into why host cells live long enough to support bacterial infections, Magdalene So of Oregon Health and Science University in Portland and her colleagues worked with Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterial species that causes gonorrhea in people. |
