Nekrasov, Nikolai Nikolaevich
Born June 18 (July 1), 1906 in Irkutsk. Soviet economist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968; corresponding member, 1958). Member of the CPSU since 1950. Nekrasov graduated from the economics department of the University of Irkutsk in 1929. In 1957 he began studying the overall problem of developing and locating productive forces in the USSR. Since 1968 he has directed comprehensive research on the development of long-range master plans addressed to this problem. In 1962 he became head of the Scientific Council on the Location of Productive Forces of the USSR of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1966 chairman of the Gosplan Council for the Study of Productive Forces in the USSR. He became a vice-president of the Soviet-Japanese Friendship Society in 1969; in 1970 he was appointed director of the Council on International Scientific Cooperation in Regional Research of the presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Nekrasov has been a member of the UN Ad Hoc Advisory Committee for the Research and Training Program in Regional Development since 1970. His major works have been on regional planning, sectorial economics, and the social aspects of the location of productive forces in the USSR.
