Nenadkevich, Konstantin Avtonomovich 

Born May 21 (June 2), 1880, in Kashevka, now Kovel’ Raion, Volyn’ Oblast; died June 19, 1963, in Moscow. Soviet chemist and mineralogist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1946). Student of V. I. Vernadskii.

Nenadkevich graduated from Moscow University in 1902. From 1906 he worked in various geological institutions of the Academy of Sciences, including the Mineralogical Museum, the Geological Institute, and the Institute of Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Rare Elements. His main works were primarily devoted to researching new types of mineral raw materials and to developing methods of extracting rare metals from ores. From 1916 to 1920, Nenadkevich devised a process for smelting metallic bismuth. He subsequently used this process to obtain the first test sample of bismuth in the USSR. In 1926 he employed a chemical method to determine the age of the mineral uraninite. A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR in 1948, Nenadkevich was awarded two Orders of Lenin.
