Brains and spleens were removed from all mice, and neoplastic tissues involving lymph nodes were removed from 4 infected and 1 uninfected mouse, and the thymus was removed from 2 infected mice (Table).
In consideration of the occupational history, and after further diagnostic procedures had failed to identify the hypothetical primitive tumor, immunostaining of the neoplastic tissue was performed.
Regressing polyps showed substantial increases in the rate of apoptosis, while the rate of apoptosis in nearby normal tissue was unchanged, confirming a selective induction of apoptosis in neoplastic tissue without affecting normal cells.
