Netflix A movie disc rental and streaming service from Netflix, Los Gatos, CA. For a monthly fee based on service level, DVD and Blu-ray rentals are ordered online, and Netflix mails the discs within the U.S. with a postage paid return envelope. It also provides near-DVD quality video streaming to customers with Internet access. Founded in 1997, Netflix shipped its billionth DVD in 2007 and shipped another billion in the following two years.Netflix Hardware In 2008, Roku was the first company to offer a dedicated Netflix player that connects to a TV and home network for video streaming. In addition, LG introduced a Blu-ray player with built-in Netflix streaming. Although the "Net" in Netflix initially implied placing DVD orders over the Internet, the name may eventually be associated with Internet delivery entirely. Many pundits forecast the demise of physical DVD and Blu-ray media in the future. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
