netsplit
A failure in an IRC link or server that divides online users into two groups. IRC servers are often linked in series, thus, a break in the line or failure in one computer causes a separation, and all of a sudden, a whole group of users sign off at once. See IRC.

Because the net split gifts were not listed separately, it was difficult to identify gifts subject only to the gift tax from those potentially subject to both gift and GST taxes.
One victim was journalist Colin Purvis, 36, who wrote an article about the Hawick On The Net split for a local newspaper.
