Neunylov, Boris Aleksandrovich 

Born Sept. 20 (Oct. 3), 1908, in Dankov, in what is now Lipetsk Oblast. Soviet soil scientist, agricultural chemist, and specialist in rice growing. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Academician of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1966). Hero of Socialist Labor (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Neunylov graduated from the Far Eastern Agricultural Institute in 1935. He worked at the Far Eastern Rice Experimental Station and on a rice-growing sovkhoz from 1935 to 1963. In 1964 he became acting chairman and between 1966 and 1970 served as chairman of the presidium of the Far Eastern Branch of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1970 he became the first deputy chairman of the presidium of the Far Eastern Science Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1973 deputy director for science of the All-Union Scientific Research Rice Institute of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Belozernoe, Krasnodar Krai).

Neunylov’s principal works deal with the physical chemistry of soils, agricultural chemistry, regulation of oxidation-reduction conditions and acidity of rice paddy soils, and methods of increasing the fertility of rice paddy soils. He proposed new methods of cultivating soils, of introducing organic and mineral fertilizers, and of caring for young crops, all of which promoted the rapid expansion of sown areas and increased the productivity of rice in Primor’e Krai. Neunylov has been awarded the Order of Lenin and various medals.
