neuroblastoma [‚nu̇r·ō·bla′stō·mə]
(medicine) A malignant neoplasm composed of anaplastic sympathicoblasts; occurs usually in the adrenal medulla of children. Neuroblastoma a malignant tumor of nerve tissues, occurring most frequently in children. Classified as neuroblastomas are sympathicogoniomas, sympathicoblastomas, and ganglioblastomas. In most cases, neuroblastomas originate in the medulla glandulae suprarenalis, in the sympathetic trunk, and in the pelvic and abdominal divisions of the sympathetic nervous system.
