neutron capture [′nü‚trän ‚kap·chər] (nuclear physics) A process in which the collision of a neutron with a nucleus results in the absorption of the neutron into the nucleus with the emission of one or more prompt gamma rays; in certain cases, beta decay or fission of the nucleus results. Also known as neutron absorption; neutron radiative capture. How to thank TFD for its existence? | We have analyzed constraints on parity-odd time-reversal noninvariant interactions derived from measurements of the energy dependence of parity-violating polarized neutron capture on unpolarized targets. However, many aspects of the process, called rapid neutron capture, remain poorly understood. BTI and Xytronyx believe, based upon the results of preclinical studies, that BOPP may also be useful in the treatment of pancreatic tumors, and longer term, that BOPP could also be used in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, another new form of cancer treatment. |
