New Georgia
1. a group of islands in the SW Pacific, in the Solomon Islands
2. the largest island in this group. Area: about 1300 sq. km (500 sq. miles)

New Georgia 

a volcanic island in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Located in Melanesia, it is part of the Solomon Islands and a possession of Great Britain. Area, 1,800 sq km. Population, approximately 15,000 (1966). Along with the adjacent islands, it forms the New Georgia Group with an area of 3,400 sq km. The island has elevations up to 813 m. The climate is hot and humid, and there are evergreen forests. Coconut palms, cacao, and bananas are grown. The principal city is Roviana.
