Alcalá Zamora y Torres, Niceto
Born July 6, 1877; died Feb. 18, 1949. Spanish state figure. Minister of industry and trade, 1917–18; minister of armed forces, 1922–23. In 1930, Alcalá Zamora y Torres joined the Revolutionary Committee, which was preparing the establishment of the republic. He was prime minister of the republic from April to October 1931 and president from December 1931 to April 1936. An opponent of the Popular Front which came to power, he emigrated first to France and then, in 1947, to Argentina. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
