Nickerson State Park Location: In southeastern Massachusetts on the mid-Cape, on Route 6A west near Brewster. Facilities: 420 campsites (including @di sites and yurt camping), showers, restrooms (é), picnic area (é), stocked ponds, beaches (é), trails, boat ramp, amphitheater. Activities: Camping, boating (non-motorized), canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, birdwatching, interpretive and recreational programs (seasonal). Special Features: Park features eight crystal clear freshwater ponds known as "kettle ponds," which are among more than 300 such ponds that were formed as glaciers retreated from Cape Cod more than 10,000 years ago. These ponds are not fed by rivers or streams, but are completely dependent on groundwater and precipitation. An 8-mile bike path in the park connects to the 25-mile Cape Cod Rail Trail.
