Nieuwpoort

Nieuwpoort or Nieuport (both: nē`pôrt), town (1991 pop. 9,572), West Flanders prov., W Belgium, on the North Sea at the mouth of the Yser River. It is a fishing port, an industrial center, and a beach resort. The site of a strong fortress, Nieuwpoort suffered heavily in the many wars of the Low Countries and was almost completely destroyed by the Germans in World War I.

The John M, from Humber Work Boats, carried out the last dredge at Amble and, earlier this year, dredged the marina at Nieuwpoort in Belgium.
This is a European Union initiative between five harbour towns (The Hague, Bremerhaven, Nieuwpoort, Zeebrugge and Hartlepool).
