Pavlov, Nikifor Damianovich
(also Nikifor Dem’ianovich Pavlov). Born Feb. 4 (16), 1867, in Kursk Province; died June 19, 1929, in Omsk. Soviet military geodesist. In 1909, Pavlov was appointed chief of the Omsk Military Topography Division and later became chief of the Siberian Military Topography Directorate of the Red Army. In 1924 he was made a professor at the Siberian Agricultural Institute. His chief works were devoted to triangulation and the measurement of the force of gravity. In 1912 he developed a method for determining clock corrections, which is used in the extreme north.
