Nikitin, Nikolai Vasilevich

Nikitin, Nikolai Vasil’evich 

Born Dec. 2(15), 1907, in Tobol’sk; died Mar. 3, 1973, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the area of reinforced-concrete and metal structures; doctor of technical sciences (1966). Graduated from the civil engineering department of the Tomsk Technological Institute in 1930.

Nikitin participated in the construction of a number of unique buildings and structures; among them Moscow State University (on the Lenin Hills), the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, the V. I. Lenin Central Stadium in Moscow, the V. I. Lenin Memorial in Ul’ianovsk, and the Monument to the Motherland in Volgograd. He drew up the plan for the Ostankino television tower in Moscow. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1951 and the Lenin Prize in 1970. He was awarded two orders and also medals.
