Nikortsminda
a domed church in the Georgian SSR. Built between 1010 and 1014, it is situated 14 km southwest of the city of Ambrolauri. Its basic design consists of a domed hexahedron. Five of the sides have apses, and a rectangular hall is attached to the western side. The external outline of the plan is cruciform. The narthexes on the south and west sides were built later in the 11th century. The lavishly carved stone facades are decorated with figures in relief. The interior of the church contains 16th-and 17th-century frescoes. REFERENCESChubinashvili, G. N., and N. P. Severov. Kumurdo i Nikortsminda. Moscow, 1947.Aladashvili, N. Rel’efy Nikortsminda.
