Established: Authorized on August 19, 1976. Location: 2 miles south of the town of Ninety Six, South Carolina, on SC 248. Accessible via I-26 and SC 34, I-20 and US 25, or I-85 and SC 178. Facilities: Picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Activities: Hiking, bicycling, fishing, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs. Special Features: This important colonial backcountry trading village and government seat (after 1769) was held briefly by the British during the Revolutionary War and is the scene of Nathanael Greene's siege in 1781. The site contains earthwork embankments of a 1781 fortification, the remains of two historic villages, a colonial plantation complex, and numerous prehistoric sites.
