Nitix

A Linux-based operating system from Net Integration Technologies Inc., Markham, Ontario (www.nitix.com) that is known for its comprehensive and unique package of services. Its NetIntelligence technology automatically discovers the network it is connected to, sets up the firewall and reconfigures it as services are added and deleted.

Nitix provides unattended, automatic backups and quick disk-based recovery in the event of failure. It also manages up to five ISP connections, load balancing between them and managing failover in the event one goes down. Nitix is available as software only or integrated into servers from the company.

A Lot of Server
This Nitix-based Linux appliance packs a lot of services into a small box. It includes built-in Web, e-mail, VPN and network access servers, a firewall and file and print services for Windows, Mac and Linux networks. Its three Ethernet ports are used to connect two ISPs to the LAN and provide automatic failover if one connection goes down. (Image courtesy of Net Integration Technologies Inc., www.nitix.com)
