Nièvre (nyĕ`vrə), department (1990 pop. 232,600), central France. Nevers Nevers , city (1991 pop. 43,889), capital of Nièvre dept., central France, on the Loire and Nièvre rivers. It is noted for its pottery and china industries.

a department in central France, on the right bank of the middle Loire River. Area, 6,900,000 sq km. Population, 249,000 (1973). Nevers is the capital.

The economy of Nièvre is based on industry, which is represented by metallurgy, machine building, the production of ceramics, food processing, and woodworking. Nièvre also supports a logging industry and stock raising on pasturelands. Nièvre has several spas, including Saint-Honoré-les-Bains.

5 kilometres of the Nivre deposit, a significant north-south trending system of mineralized breccias that has been mapped and sampled over a continuous distance of five kilometres and discontinuously over nine kilometres.
Trenching and augering is also planned to continue evaluation of the near surface potential of the Nivre area as well as on the Jadfar and Dartagnan intrusive targets to the north and west of the Nivre system.
The continuity and extension of the Montagne Nivre mineralized zone, as well as other gold mineralizations associated with granodiorite intrusives and other geochemical anomalies, will be tested.
