Norin, Sergei Konstantinovich
(pen name of S. K. Khriapin). Born June 17 (30), 1909, in St. Petersburg; died Apr. 14, 1942, in Arkhangel’sk. Soviet Russian author. Member of the CPSU from 1941. Fought in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. Norin graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Journalism and subsequently lived in Petrozavodsk. His principal works are the collection of essays and stories Exploded Mountains (1932), the novel On the Border(1938), the collection of stories Native Shore (1939), the play The Outpost at Chernyi Creek (1940), and the novella Mikko Makkonen (published 1947). Norin’s works are devoted to the Soviet border guards and to the struggle of the Karelian people against the interventionists during the Civil War of 1918–20 and the feats of labor of the Karelians during industrialization.
