North Augusta, city (1990 pop. 15,351), Aiken co., SW S.C., on the Savannah River opposite Augusta, Ga.; settled c.1860, inc. 1906. Located in an agricultural region, it is mostly residential. Railroad equipment, building materials, machinery, chemicals, and furniture are manufactured there. Many local residents are employed at the U.S. Department of Energy's nearby Savannah River Site.
