Notman, John

Notman, John (1810–65) architect; born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Practicing in Philadelphia after 1831, he early adopted the Italianate style and incorporated technological innovations like residential central heating and plumbing. He helped found the American Institute of Architects (1857).
