Novikov, Igor’ Aleksandrovich 

Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Drezna, Moscow Oblast. Soviet athlete (modern pentathlon). Honored Master of Sports (1957), Honored Coach of the USSR (1968), and Honored Worker in Physical Education of the Armenian SSR (1969). Member of the CPSU since 1958.

Novikov was an Olympic champion (1956, 1964) and world champion (1957–59; 1961–62) in team competition in the pentathlon. In individual competition he was world champion (1957–59, 1961) and USSR champion (1953, 1956, 1959, and 1964). He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
