Nurberdyev, Pomma 

Born May 5, 1909, in the village of Akian, present-day Mary Raion; died Sept. 24, 1972, in Ashkhabad. Soviet Turkmen writer. Member of the CPSU from 1943.

Nurberdyev’s first works were published in 1932, and his first poetry collection, Open Flowers, appeared in 1938. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45, Nurberdyev wrote the narrative poem On Days of Battle (1941) and the poetry collection Decisive Days (1943). His narrative poem Uncle Aba (1952) deals with postwar construction, and his novel The Stormy Current (1965) depicts the class struggle during the period of collectivization. His short-story collection Tailak Khyzzyn (1955) makes extensive use of folk humor. From 1954 to 1958, Nurberdyev was editor of the satirical journal Tokmak (Rattle).
