Nuriev, Ziia Nurievich 

Born Mar. 8 (21), 1915, in the village of Verkhnelachentau, in what is now Birsk Raion, Bashkir ASSR. Soviet government and party official. Hero of Socialist Labor (1975). Member of the CPSU since 1939. A graduate of the Birsk Pedagogical Technicum (1933) and of the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1951). Candidate of economics (1966).

Nuriev worked in the public education system from 1933 to 1938 and again from 1940 to 1942. He served in the Soviet Army from 1938 to 1940. Involved in party work since 1942, he was secretary and second secretary of the Bashkir oblast committee of the CPSU from 1952 to 1957 and first secretary from 1957 to 1969. Nuriev was then minister for farm produce purchases of the USSR and member of the All-Union Kolkhoz Council from 1969 to 1973. He became deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in April 1973.

Nuriev became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1961. A deputy to the fourth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, he was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1954 to 1969. Nuriev has been awarded four Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
