[2] Bacteria are vital in recycling nutrients, and many important steps in nutrient cycles depend on bacteria, such as the fixation of nitrogen from the atmosphere.
Emphasis is placed on a holistic systems approach involving the entire farm as the basic unit, on the central role of agroecosystems, on balanced nutrient cycles, on the welfare of all species in animal husbandry, on the safety of the product, and the economic feasibility.
It has developed a computer-based hydrodynamic and geochemical model with which sea-cage developers can explore the dispersal and environmental impact of nutrient inputs from uneaten fishmeal and fish faeces on natural nutrient cycles in a defined coastal area.
