Nuttall, George Henry Falkiner

Nuttall, George Henry Falkiner (nŭt`ôl), 1862–1937, American-British bacteriologist, b. San Francisco, M.D. Univ. of California, 1884, Ph.D. Univ. of Göttingen, 1890. In 1899 he became associated with Cambridge Univ., where he was professor of biology from 1906. He contributed much to the knowledge of parasites and of insect carriers of diseases. He organized the Molteno Institute for Research in Parasitology at Cambridge and directed it from 1921. Nuttall established (1901) and edited the Journal of Hygiene and also founded (1908) and edited Parasitology. His writings include Blood Immunity and Blood Relationship (1904); he was a coauthor of The Bacteriology of Diphtheria (1908).
