O'Hara, James (1752–1819) soldier, manufacturer; born in Ireland. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1772 and served as a captain in the American Revolution. He was the quartermaster for the U.S. Army (1792–96) and a government contractor (1796–1802). He moved to Pittsburgh and worked to erect that city's first glassworks. He built boats to transport salt and cotton, became involved in the Ligonier iron works, and was engaged in banking.
