O'Neill, James (1847–1920) actor; born in Kilkenny, Ireland (father of Eugene O'Neill). Brought to the U.S.A. as a child, he became popular in romantic roles—particularly in The Count of Monte Cristo, which he performed over 6,000 times. His decline is captured in his son's drama, A Long Day's Journey Into Night. How to thank TFD for its existence?
