an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Krasnogorskii Raion, Dzhambul Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Railroad station on the Alma-Ata-Lugovaia line 156 km west of Alma-Ata. Population, 8,700 (1970). There are railroad shops in Otar.
