Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area Location: In Oceano, 3 miles south of the city of Pismo Beach, off Highway 1. Facilities: Primitive camping on beach and open dune area, vault and chemical toilets, picnic areas, trails, beach wheelchair rentals. Activities: Camping, OHV riding, hiking, swimming, surf fishing, horseback riding, bird watching. Special Features: Area is among the most popular and unique of California state parks, attracting visitors from across the United States. Five and a half miles of beach are open for vehicle use, and 1,500 acres of sand dunes are available for off-highway motor vehicle riding. Oceano Dunes is the only California state park where vehicles may be driven on the beach. Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended for driving to the camping and off highway vehicle use areas in the park. OHV's must be transported to this point before unloading.
