Name Origin: For Col. William Beck Ochiltree (1811-67), Republic of TX secretary of the treasury (1844), TX legislator (1855), delegate to the TX Constitutional Convention (1861), and Confederate officer. Area (sq mi): 918.07 (land 917.56; water 0.51). Pop per sq mi: 10.20. Pop 2005: 9,385. State rank: 170. Pop change: 2000-20005 4.20%; 1990-2000 -1.30%. Pop 2000: 9,006 (White 66.30%; Black or African American 0.10%; Hispanic or Latino 31.80%; Asian 0.40%; Other 13.20%). Foreign born: 16.10%. Median age: 33.70.
