Offner, Richard, 1889–1965, American art historian, b. Vienna, studied at Harvard, Ph.D. Univ. of Vienna, 1914. An outstanding authority on Italian art of the 13th and 14th cent., he taught at New York Univ. from 1923 to 1957. He wrote A Critical and Historical Corpus of Florentine Painting (1930–69), his major, multivolumed work. Italian Primitives at Yale University (1927) and Studies in Florentine Painting (1927) are other writings. Offner, Richard (b. Schmeidler) (1889–1965) art historian; born in Vienna, Austria. He emigrated with his family to America (1891), and studied at Harvard (1909–12), the American Academy of Rome (1912–14), and the University of Vienna (Ph.D. 1914). He divided his time between New York City and Florence, Italy, taught at New York University (1923–60), and specialized in Italian Renaissance art. How to thank TFD for its existence?
