Ogbomosho (ōb `môshô, ŏgbōmō`shō), city (1991 pop. 644,000), SW Nigeria. It is the trade center for a farming region. Yams, cassava, corn, and tobacco are grown. OgbomoshoCity (pop. 1995 est.: 711,900), southwestern Nigeria. Founded in the mid-17th century, it was an outpost of the Oyo empire until the Muslim Fulani conquests in the early 19th century. As a centre of resistance, the walled town attracted many Oyo refugees. Located northeast of Ibadan, it is one of Nigeria's largest urban centres. It is also a trading centre and rail junction.
