In north-central IL south of Rockford; organized Jan 16, 1836 from Jo Daviess County. Name Origin: For Lt. Joseph Ogle, first Methodist layman in IL and captain of the territorial militia.

Area (sq mi): 763.27 (land 758.83; water 4.43). Pop per sq mi: 71.50.
Pop 2005: 54,290. State rank: 26. Pop change: 2000-20005 6.40%; 1990-2000 11.00%. Pop 2000: 51,032 (White 92.20%; Black or African American 0.40%; Hispanic or Latino 6.00%; Asian 0.40%; Other 3.80%). Foreign born: 4.30%. Median age: 37.20.
Income 2000: per capita $20,515; median household $45,448; Pop below poverty level: 7.10%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $25,981-$26,063.
