Vartashen 

a city (a settlement until 1968), administrative center of Vartashen Raion, Azerbaijan SSR, in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, 105 km south-east from the Evlakh railroad station and junction (on the Tbilisi-Baku line). Population, 7,000 (1969). There is an asphalt plant and a tobacco-growing sovkhoz.
