Oil Region National Heritage Area Address: Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry & Tourism PO Box 128 Oil City, PA 16301 Phone: 800-483-6264; Fax: 814-677-5206; Web: www.oilregion.org Established: The Oil Region was designated a Pennsylvania Heritage Park in 1994 and authorized as a National Heritage Area on December 8, 2004. The national heritage area will be managed by the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry & Tourism. Location: Comprised of Venango County, Oil Creek Township in eastern Crawford County, and the City of Titusville, Pennsylvania. Special Features: The area contains remnants of the oil industry, in addition to historic valley and riverbed settlements, plateau developments, farmlands, and industrial landscapes. The area's cultural traditions have been shaped by Native Americans, frontier settlements, the French and Indian War, African Americans and the Underground Railroad, and Swedish and Polish immigration. The NHA designation will enhance the current efforts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, volunteer organizations, and private businesses to interpret, preserve, enhance, and promote the cultural, national, and recreational resources of the region to residents and visitors.
