Old Mission State Park Location: Northern Idaho, 1 mile east of Cataldo. Facilities: Historic buildings, picnic areas, restrooms, trails, boat ramp, interpretive center. Activities: Fishing, boating, hiking, guided walks, interpretive programs. Special Features: Park features the oldest standing building in Idaho, the Mission of the Sacred Heart. The mission was built between 1850 and 1853 by the Coeur d'Alene Indians and Jesuit missionaries. The building has walls 18 inches thick and was built entirely without nails. The Coeur d'Alene Indians still consider it their mission and return each year on August 15 to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption.
