Sylviidae
a family of insectivorous birds of the order Passeriformes. Sylviidae range from 10 to 25 cm in length. The plumage is dull gray, brown, or greenish and in some species is mottled. The sexes are usually alike; young birds are not spotted. Sylviidae inhabit forests, thickets, reeds, and tall grass. About 300 species are distributed throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. The species that breed in the north are migratory. Fifty-four species of Sylviidae occur in the USSR, including Sylvia warblers, leaf warblers, reed warblers, and Locustella warblers. Sylviidae are sometimes considered a subfamily of the extensive family Muscicapidae, which also includes Turdidae, Timaliidae, Muscicapidae, and Regulidae. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
