On the northwestern border of KY, north of Louisville; organized Dec 16, 1823 from Jefferson, Shelby, and Henry counties. Name Origin: For Col. William Oldham (?-1791), officer in the American Revolution, killed in a battle with Indians.

Pop 2005: 53,533. State rank: 16. Pop change: 2000-20005 15.90%; 1990-2000 38.80%. Pop 2000: 46,178 (White 92.90%; Black or African American 4.20%; Hispanic or Latino 1.30%; Asian 0.40%; Other 1.80%). Foreign born: 1.60%. Median age: 36.70.

On the northwestern border of TX panhandle, west of Amarillo; organized Aug 21, 1876 from Bexar County. Name Origin: For Williamson Simpson Oldham (1813-68), AR legislator, member of the TX secession convention (1861), and TX senator to the Confederate Congress.
