| Interestingly, NaI induced specific changes in multiple olfactory receptor and oxidative stress transcripts, including Txnrd1, Gpx2, superoxide dismutase 2 (Sod2), and nitric oxide synthase 2 (Nos2), that were not affected by PB or PTU treatment (Table 5). Buck, of the University of Washington, found that humans have about 350 olfactory receptors on cells inside the nostrils. However, researchers were unable to pinpoint olfactory receptors on these cilia or explain how such receptors might work. |
