Olitski, Jules (ŏlĭt`skē), 1922–2006, American painter, b. Russia as Jevel Demikovsky. At first he stained his canvases and later used a spray gun to cover large canvases with several layers of varied pastel colors, creating a soft, atmospheric effect. Olitski also made painted metal sculptures. His last works were mainly monotype prints and landscape paintings. BibliographySee study by K. Moffett (1973). How to thank TFD for its existence?
