Oliver, Jack E. (Ertle) (1923– ) seismologist; born in Massillon, Ohio. He was an adviser to the president (1958–59) and the U.S. Air Force (1960–69), a member of the Atomic Energy Commission (1969–74), and the Irving Porter Church Professor of Engineering at Cornell University (1971).
