Olivkov, Boris Mikhailovich
Born July 25 (Aug. 6), 1892, in the village of Kopnino, Sapozhok District, Riazan’ Province; died Dec. 9, 1954, in Moscow. Soviet veterinary surgeon. Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1944). In 1917, Olivkov graduated from the Kazan Veterinary Institute, where in 1920 he became head of the subdepartment of surgery. In 1925 he became a professor at the institute. In 1935, Olivkov was appointed head of the subdepartment of surgery at the Moscow Veterinary Institute. Olivkov proposed and perfected techniques for the most important surgical operations on animals. He solved many problems of the biology of wounds and developed the acid and alkaline treatment for wounds and complications resulting from them. He founded a school of Soviet veterinary surgeons. Olivkov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1951. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, and a number of medals. WORKSObshchaia khirurgiia domashnikh zhivotnykh, 2nd ed.
