Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park

Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park

Location: 2 miles east of Olustee on US 90.
Facilities: Picnic tables, nature trail, interpretive center, visitor center.
Activities: Interpretive programs.
Special Features: Site commemorates Florida's largest Civil War battle, in which more than 10,000 soldiers fought for five hours on February 20, 1864. Three US Colored Troops, including the now-famous 54th Massachusetts, participated in the battle, which ended with the retreat of the Union soldiers to Jacksonville for the remainder of the war. Casualties that day totaled more than 2,800. The battle is reenacted each year, and scenes for Civil War movies (including Glory) have been filmed during the reenactments.
