Olyk, Ipai
(pen name of Ipatii Stepanovich Stepanov). Born Mar. 24, 1912, in the village of Toimetsola, present-day Morki Raion, Mari ASSR; died 1943. Soviet Mari poet. In 1931, with Iyvan Kyrlia, Olyk published the poetry collection We Are Shock Workers. They later published several other poetry collections. Olyk developed a precise syllabic-accentual versification in Mari poetry. Olyk wrote the play Golden Dawn, which deals with the Revolution. He also wrote short stories and translated works by A. S.
