hyperboloid [hī′pər·bə‚lȯid] (mathematics) A quadric surface given by an equation of the form (x2/a2) ± (y2/b2) - (z2/c2) = 1; in certain cases it is a hyperboloid of revolution, which can be realized by rotating the pieces of a hyperbola about an appropriate axis.
